Yay! Hello again :)
Thanks, everyone, for reconnecting with me over here :) I strongly suggest using this as an opportunity to get rid of my Potboy account over here which has become nothing more than Tumblr spam. I literally don't even remember the name of the program I used to mirror my Tumblr to here, and without that I can't google for how to shut it down.
Someone mentioned, last night, that Livejournal was still around, so I went back to see what had become of it and was overwhelmed with nostalgia for a more innocent time.
Initially I was like 'why don't I just go back to LJ? I liked it there!' So I made a new LJ, but the moment I started uploading icons, I realized I was wondering if it was safe to upload icons with the queer flags, and that reminded me why I'd left in the first place.
So I thought I'd come here and see if I could get back into the habit of more longform posting again. Social media is becoming a nightmare corporate environment where everyone's outraged all the time. It seemed like a good idea to return to something (a) made by fans and (b) much lower pressure. It's extremely encouraging to know that you're all active enough here to have at least noticed the notification that I'd subscribed to you in this new form.

Thanks for the follow back or whatever they're calling it these days :)

I get what you're saying about LiveJournal. I mostly go there to browse old communities for fic and icons, but it just isn't the same as it used to be and I wasn't even there during its heyday. Welcome to Dreamwidth!

Heh!
I think I returned to LJ to finish my old fics just in case I kick the bucket, as you do...! ;-)
Re: Heh!
I'm not too bad, thanks. Fatter, older and more aware of being queer, but none of those are bad things. I am suffering with a bit of writer's block, though, which is.
Re: Heh!
I hope your writer's block will soon pass, your stories were always a delight to read.
I post both here and on LJ; my fics are all hosted on AOOO. Posting fics is basically all I do, it's about the only fun thing I can do at the moment. I'm still working in the field of social psychiatry, so I have more work thanks to Corona, not less. I've faithfully returned to Tolkien's world, old friends are still the best and writing nonsense about Elves seems to work wonders for my sanity. :)

I "rediscovered" DW at the beginning of the year, and tbh it's been a hugely calming bright spot in the current social media landscape. Not having banner ads and sponsored posts is such an AMAZING feeling. And I feel like I struggle to keep up with most social media, so the more mellow, relaxed, low-pressure feeling here is a relief.

And yes, much though I'm addicted to Tumblr for an endless succession of bright shiny things, sometimes you just want to have a conversation, or even just say something, and then to be able to find the conversations again later, and it's not good for that. This is (not coincidentally) more like journalling but with the added bonus that you can read the handwriting later.

I do like the bright and shiny that tumblr provides, and I definitely find a lot of neat stuff on there, but it certainly isn't conducive to long-form things, or personal things, or things you want to easily find again...
