Got to celebrate them!

So, now that I've put that extra eight bars into the choreography, everything has settled into a much more regular structure, and I have started to be able to hear the different parts of the music and the shifts between them.

Which means that today I managed to dance the whole thing through twice without getting lost. And on one of those occasions the stick nearly fell off my head and I had to grab it and do some improvisation with it before getting it balanced again and joining back in when the next section arrived.

Admittedly this is partly because I simplified one of the choruses, but it's early days and I may be able to de-simplify it now I understand how it all fits together. (As long as I remember all this tomorrow.)

The skirt arrived and needs turning up, but the sewing machine is in the conservatory and I'm not going to sit in a glass room in 29C weather. I'll do that this evening.

So instead I've read and edited another chapter of my podfic of Guanyin's Gift. In which Jin Guangyao gets to do his life all over again from the age of eight. Armed with a lifetime of cultivation and spy skills, and a lifetime's knowledge of the politics of the cultivation world, he gets it much more right this time around.

A Podfic of 'Guanyin's Gift' by Galadhir

You can't build a goddess of mercy a large temple and pay for priests to worship her every day without earning at least some merit. Aka, by divine mercy, Jin Guangyao gets a chance to do his life all over again.

Managed to actually do some fannish stuff yesterday and the result is that chapter fifteen of Oak and Willow is up on AO3.

In which Galadriel, exiled to Sirion once Thingol heard about the kinslaying, and sick of being treated like a traitor/dangerous political hot potato by her cousins, receives an unexpected - but very welcome - visitor.

Oak and Willow Chapter 15

Only one more chapter to go and this one will be done. After which I think I will edit all the individual chapters together so it can be listened to as an audiobook.

And on a lighter note, I have begun podficcing my own Oak and Willow, which conveniently has shortish chapters that I can both record and edit in a day. Much easier than having to record for an hour at a time!

Oak and Willow being the story of Celeborn and Galadriel during the First Age of Middle-earth, told from the Sindarin point of view, with digressions to cover the invention of writing, the first rising of the sun and the moon, and so much elvish racism and politics.

First three chapters up at Ao3

It occurs that I can podfic my own works. So, where should I start?

Chapter Three is up here

In which Yanli teaches her husband to make dumplings, learns that he can dance, and gets delightfully drunk.

Part Two of the Peony to Lotus verse by Deriliarch. In part one, Flower of Another Kind Jin Guangyao is married off to Jiang Yanli as if to get him out of Koi Tower as fast as possible. Jiang Yanli decides to make the best of things.

Meanwhile, in this fic, Jiang Yanli and Jin Guangyao decide to begin courtship, slightly out of order. But exposing themselves to the possibility of being loved also means running headlong into all the ways they've been taught they are not worthy of it.

This whole series is a favourite of mine because I just want to see if the entire cultivation world could have been saved by someone being kind to JGY, and this is a lovely, warm, delighted and delightful look at that.

I was quite happy to podfic the whole series, but luckily there is already an excellent podfic of the first story Flower of Another Kind, narrated by Sisi_rambles so I decided to start with story number 2.

Huzzah! I have finished recording and editing my podfic of Last of our Kind, by Shiome

I've also gathered all the links into Chapter One, so you only need to have one Ao3 page open on your device to get access to the links for every chapter. (IDK, it's a feature I've appreciated when other podficcers do it.)

This has taken over 14 weeks because there was time off over Christmas, but I'm very proud of it. I even did the voices :)

So without more ado

Woohoo! Chapter ten is up today. Only four more to go and it will be complete (and I'll actually be able to listen to this story from start to finish - the main reason why I started podficcing it in the first place.)

Chapter 10: A Rope That Wears Thin
Summary:

If the journey so far is any indication, memories will come unbidden, and he can do nothing but receive them at their whim.

In his weakest moments, Meng Yao wishes he didn’t remember a thing.

Wishes it could just be this: handsome, kind Lan Xichen and himself, traveling the land without horrors weighing on their hearts. Spending the days close and the nights closer.

Getting lured back to Tumblr by all the Untamed content over there. Mostly going through the blogs of Jin Guangyao stans and reblogging everything - basically being irritating to two websites at once. But this time I'm going to post about it here, so I don't just end up fading out again.

The Untamed/MDZS fandom must be the largest I've ever been in, and that includes the Tolkien fandom, and it is absolutely bursting with really great fic. Quite a lot of which is even Jin Guangyao centric. Of course I've done my usual thing of gravitating to a widely controversial character rather than nestling happily in the main pairing, which cuts down my reading choices somewhat. But I don't think I could ever be content shipping a pairing for which the canon had already come through. What is left for the fan writer to fix in those cases? Much harder to give JGY a happy ending, especially if you also want everyone else (except Jin Guangshan, he can die) to live and be happy too. But that's what makes it fun.

I'm currently in the middle of podficcing Shiome's Last of our kind, for which I can just about manage to produce a chapter a week. There are 14 chapters and I've done 8. So that should be finished in February. After which, I'm in a quandary as to whether I podfic Derillarch's Peony to Lotus series, or whether I attempt to finish the story I started writing months and months ago.

(That's 'The Will of Heaven', in which JGY comes back to life the same way WWX did, and must attempt to become Lan Furen while fooling the rest of the cultivation world that he is someone else entirely, or else deal with the consequences.)

There is so much good fic out there that it doesn't seem like the fandom needs mine. But there are not very many JGY centric podfics, so I do almost feel like I can make a bigger difference by podficcing than by writing, atm.

So, I'm now mostly lurking in The Untamed fandom (and also doing podfic of one of my favourite fics.) I guess this means I need Jin Guangyao icons now :)

Making podfic is a lot easier than I thought. The main problem (for me) is just tripping over my tongue, but a lot of that can be fixed in the editing.

A podfic of Last of Our Kind by Shiome

On a ship to Dongying, a man awakens grievously injured, missing not only a hand but also a good chunk of his memories.

Travelling across a foreign land and dealing with local ghosts, Meng Yao(?) tries to remember and Lan Xichen tries to forget. But on the way to retracing and rekindling old feelings, they realize they are being followed.
