Ooh, I didn't think about assistive devices . I like the things that go over your pencil (or in this case, paintbrush) to help the grip. I've been just hoping that with practice I will train myself out of it. As you say, a thicker paint helps, and the brushes are also designed to help. So I won't despair of my hands until I've learned how to get the best out of the brushes.
I'm mostly going to be working with enamel paint, which is great for using over any material and is suitable for being left out in the weather, but that's cool as it is a fairly thick paint, sort of creamy in consistency. It is an oil-based paint so it's probably similar to the ochre paint. I would certainly love to try that! It sounds like something that would have been used in the stoneage in cave painting, or to be buried with. Do you have to grind it yourself?
