Well, we prepared for having our son and daughter home for Christmas, and both of them are ill, so we are having the first Christmas alone together that we have ever had since we got married.

When we were newly married we always went to my parents one year and DH's the next. Then we had Daughter, then Son, which meant that even if we weren't still going to one or other set of parents, we always had children at home.

Then Daughter paired up and we had alternate years when she went to her PILs, but Son stayed at home. Even when Son got his boat, it was nice for him to come home over Christmas if only for the warmth and hot showers.

But this year they're both ill and staying at home. So we're on our own for the first time in 35 years.

It's weird. I think I would enjoy it more if I had been prepared, and I'd made a list of things to do. But as a vegetarian with IBS I can't even fall back on the mainstay of cooking and eating things together.

Oh well, it's not too late to make a list of things we can do, and I may take lactase and mebeverine and risk some of the treats anyway. I'm still very blessed to have DH to spend the time with.

Thank you so much! I'm just a beginner, but it felt like it went well.

Yes, it picked up once we opened presents and had new books to read - and I have a new mp3 player that I can load with music and podfic for me to listen too while cycling. And now it's nearly ten in the evening and we've had a nice day after all :)

I'm so sorry they're both sick! I hope they feel better soon.

And bummer that you couldn't at least plan ahead for the just-the-two-of-you holiday.

Thank you! Yes, the two who were originally sick are getting better now, but the one who was okay and looking after them both is now on the way down. I offered to just call it a day and bring their presents to them, but they are still insisting we'll have a proper Christmas when they're all well. Although we don't know when that will be.

We actually had a very nice peaceful day, so it turned out okay after all :)

Ugh, the seasonal crud seems to be going around everywhere. Alex is sick, I've had coworkers out sick, so many students out...

I hope that everyone is well soon and that you guys do get to have a good belated Christmas celebration!

But I am glad the day itself was nicely peaceful. :)

Thank you! DH bought me the skirt when I took up belly dancing, but it turned out that it's the wrong outfit for raqs sharqi and I had never got to wear it. This time I figured that the red and green of the theme might get it past the dress censors, and it did ;)

It turned out alright in the end, fortunately. Thank you!
