I'm definitely still not following enough people. My reading page is still not long enough to keep me off Tumblr. So far I've mostly followed people I know or people I found by clicking through my interests. Now I'm going to have to scrape friends' subscription lists.

This is where an algorithm would be welcome (I'm joking!)

I still spend more time on tumblr, but feel like my time here tends to be more in-depth.

As often is the case, I wish even half the people I see on tumblr/elsewhere who lament how much they miss LJ's heyday would come use DW, even just a little! I know that the process of creating critical mass enough to get people to join up somewhere is a very, very tricky one, and it's not actually that easy... but man, if half the people who say they wish LJ was still how it used to be/wish DW was more active would come hang out with us for a bit, then DW WOULD be more active, lol.

Yes, that's my one regret about DW too. I wish more people from LJ had come here back in the day, and we could have moved LJ fandom in its entirety. Now we're scattered all over the place, and I imagine that the younger people who don't have fond memories of LJ will be going somewhere else. Discord maybe. And then it will all happen again when that goes down. But at least Twitter going under seems to be swelling the numbers here. The more times the alternatives go down, the more people will flee here eventually :)

Me too! Big platform changes always mean that the communities that were hosted there splinter. I do really wish that more of LJ had moved here. I know a lot of fandom on tumblr and twitter came from people who never used LJ. Discord seems to be the biggest hub for fandom now, which is sort of a bummer (for me) because I don't do great with discord. For the people who are interested in longer-form content, and something more personally-curated than twitter, I hope they come here if they're looking for a new place to be!

Yeah, I have a problem with Discord too. I use it a lot for keeping in touch with my family - we have a family discord and that's much more convenient than texting each other. But for fandom it's too busy and it's arranged in threads that are never what I'm really interested in - there's no unstructured space to just be yourself in. A bit like the old message boards which I never liked either

I join a lot of discords that sound like they'd be interesting, and then I get immediately overwhelmed and never visit the server again, lmao. I've joined a couple fandom or ship-specific ones, but they're either completely dead, or they move too fast and constantly for me. I like the slower pace of DW, or even tumblr. I don't enjoy feeling like if I don't check in on something hourly, I've missed whole conversations, and that it would be poor etiquette to return to topics everyone has moved on from. (And I never much enjoyed message boards either!)
