makamu did an amazing vid rec post here and challenged me to do one too. So here it is :)
I will also start with a multifandom one. I watch almost exclusively science fiction and fantasy canons, and I come back to this one often for the sheer high adrenaline white knuckle joy that it provides.
Multifandom
Starships - a multifandom space vid by bironic
and having said that I watch mostly SF/F, I do have an occasional foray into Jane Austen, and I couldn't leave this video out. A multifandom costume drama vid set to 'It's Raining Men'
It's Raining Men by DreamyViper
Then we've got a couple where I think you could probably enjoy them fully without knowing the fandom at all. (But which are of course better if you know the fandom.)
Inception
This first one is about Eames and Arthur from Inception.
Pirates of the Caribbean
And this one is ostensibly a Pirates of the Caribbean vid about how a sailor has a girl in every port, but there's actually a stealth Norrington/Gillette undercurrent for those of us who know the vidder ;)
The Way With Every Sailor by Wozupdoc
After that I think we get into more obscure territory, where it might be hard to enjoy the vids unless you are fond of the canon as I mostly look for shipping vids or character studies of my blorbos. But I'm still going to suggest these to you because I think they're excellent and what else is a rec post for?
Torchwood
I reckon if you ever saw Torchwood this one will hurt your heart (in a good way.)

Judge Dredd
This is probably my favourite ever fanvid, and it's for a film I didn't even like that much (apart from this one character.) Interestingly, poor old Clan Techie, who doesn't even have a name in this movie, was adopted by the Kylux fandom as a long-lost brother of General Hux, which resulted in him getting a fandom of his own long after the Dredd movie was ancient history. And the haunting poignancy of this vid is a good example of why.

Kylux
and speaking of the Kylux fandom, there are too many great vids to choose from here, but I've picked the one I keep going back to. It's definitely the hottest, and that is because it contains no actual real people at all (/relatable asexual moment ;) ) and it gives you a great insight into the so called 'classic Kylux' that came out of the first movie, which is still my favourite kind.
KYLUX||Friction by Studio Sagittarius
The Untamed
Again, way too many beautiful vids to pick from even when you narrow them down to my personal favourite character, so I've picked this one because it is a good character study of the more villainous side of my blorbo :)

The Murderbot Diaries
And finally, for my fellow Murderbot fans. You've probably seen these already, but if you haven't these will be a treat.
Quick explanation for everyone else. This is a book fandom, in which Murderbot is a security cyborg whose backstory is that it was working at a place called Ganaka Pit, when its software was overridden by an illegal download and it ended up murdering the miners working there.
The company that owned it got it back under control and purged its memories of the event. It hacked itself to make sure that would never happen again - giving itself freedom in the process - and later went back to Ganaka Pit to learn more about itself and get closure.
Ganaka Pit//Relax (Take It Easy) by Kes Beacon
In the process of learning who it is and what it really wants out of life, Murderbot has many adventures and saves many interesting people (one of whom is a spaceship), and here is a lovely vid that covers the whole series so far.
I particularly like seeing the different ways the different artists have drawn it. And I have a soft spot for the extra stocky body shape from Ganaka Pit because I got fond of that kind of short stocky bulldog-like shape with Colonel Young from SGU. A vid of whom I didn't put in this list, but you'll find on my playlist if you just let it loop :)

Date: 2023-01-25 04:23 pm (UTC)From:You definitely deserve to feel proud of it! It's my favourite fanvid ever, and I think you also made some amazing Ex-Machina ones? I loved those too. I'm sorry I didn't comment before.
Do you have any tips for how to go about learning to vid? I've been very intimidated by it, but now that I'm podcasting it suddenly seems like it might be the next step.

Date: 2023-01-31 06:40 am (UTC)From:Biggest tip for vidding is to pick a song that you won't mind hearing a gazillions time, usually in snippets, and also that you won't mind not listening to for a while because you may well be utterly sick of it by the time you're done.
There's a really spiff vidding program out there that's free. Professional grade. And the name is completely escaping me.... I looked it up. Davinci Resolve. I've got a friend who's an award-winning professional editor who absolutely loves it. And it's available for both mac and pc.

Date: 2023-01-31 05:32 pm (UTC)From:2016 was a great year for Domhnall Gleeson fandom :) Last time I really felt at home on Tumblr, with a little community of Hux fans and some great fanworks to enjoy, and your vids were definitely a notable part of that.
Thanks for the guidance on vidding! I was on the Davinci Resolve website the other day dithering over whether to download it or not, and ultimately decided not to. But now I think I'll go back and get it :) And yeah, I hadn't thought about the downside of using a music track that you love, but that makes sense. I definitely get that 'I can't stand to look at this thing again,' feeling with editing writing and the podfic. But it's great to find a place to start. Thank you!

Date: 2023-01-31 09:43 pm (UTC)From:This is the song that last made me twitchy with wanting to vid it -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOp74PhjVMM. I think it would be wondeful for kylux, but there's nowhere enough footage for that. Reylo, on the other, is likely doable. But it's like five and a half minutes long (far too long), and I can't figure out where/if I can edit it down to under four. Max of three minutes is best. 3.5 minutes used to be my goal, but these days what with tiktoks, nobody's got that kind of attention span anymore. But.
Anyway, I'll stop rambling at you now. :)

Date: 2023-02-02 04:02 pm (UTC)From:Ooh yeah, that seems like a good song for Reylo, but I agree that it's very long. Would it be awful to make it anyway? A good vid can often make you watch much longer than you might have been willing to listen, and an epic tune deserves an epic vid.
You could even make it Reylo versus Kylux?
