Thanks! I was trying to get back up to dancing fitness in time for the easing of lockdown next month, when we can practice in sixes. I was doing some jump rope to get myself used to impact again (because all I've been doing is cycling for the past 6 months.) But my shoes were dodgy and I twisted something... and that was two weeks ago. :(
Ugh. I tore my plantar fascia in the middle of a dance (dancing with a UK Border team, actually, trying to remember who, now...) end of May two years ago. I decided to start working with a personal trainer after that to really strengthen everything because I don't want to be injured anymore! And none of the regular things I do have bothered me but I've barely danced for a year so we'll see I guess. Hoping to abandon my parentcare responsibilities long enough to be with my team on May 1st inasmuch as we can be together (some are vaxxed, some not yet, but maybe all will be close by then). So many challenges as we try to figure out how to make some kind of normal out of what we have been through.
Morris dancing is just terrible for the knees :) And yes, I suspect there will be a huge rash of injuries as soon as everyone is back dancing after over a year without. We'll have to break ourselves into it gently.
Ooh, May day! Yes, that's just the right day to get it started again. Do you have a tradition of dancing at sunrise on Mayday? Most of us got up at dawn in 2020 and danced a jig in our own gardens, but it would be nice if we could be out with others this year.
Oh yes! We usually dance on top of a little hill called Mt. Pollux, starting before dawn. Often we have a party the night before as well, although I'm not sure whether that can happen or not this year. Some of us like to stay up all night which is fun but getting a liiiittle harder every year haha. Last year, the musician sent out music and we all took our phones to our solitary location of choice and danced by ourselves (in the rain).
My team is actually practicing together either in person but with extreme distancing or by Zoom, often a hybrid of both. A few of us are fully vaccinated so that helps. *fingers crossed for May Morning.
Oh that sounds great :) We normally dance in front of Ely cathedral, and in 2020 the three of us who were all members of the same family danced there, while the rest of us danced in our gardens. There was a lot to be said for being able to go straight back to bed after!
This year we should be able to start practicing again - at least in groups of six - by the 12th of April, so hopefully we'll be able to do a little more. Unfortunately most of us don't get our second doses of vaccine until June. But it's coming back together, even if it's not completely back to normal yet. Good luck!
