It occurs to me this morning that I no longer have any social media. No one I used to talk to on Tumblr is still active on Tumblr, so all I use it for now is to reblog things. As the people I follow fall for new media that I haven't seen, the feed becomes more and more incomprehensible, and I feel very isolated.
I also feel like we tried a lot of things and we found out that the old ways are better. You know? Streaming was great but then suddenly we didn't own anything, so it's good to go back to buying DVDs. 'Social media' was great but then suddenly we didn't know anyone, so it's good to go back to a platform where you can actually speak to people.
Anyway, this is me feeling like I really want my Dreamwidth again because there are things here I can't do elsewhere, like *journal* and *talk to people.*
Exciting news for today is that it snowed overnight. Only a light powdering of icing-sugar snow, but that's remarkable enough for this far south in England in these days of climate change.

Date: 2026-01-10 11:03 am (UTC)From:LOL! 'I see you've just bought a new toilet. Here are some adverts for other toilets you might be interested in.' That one annoys me so much on Amazon. Sometimes it will even suggest a book for me that I bought from Amazon barely a month ago.
Facebook's ads tend to annoy me by being terrifyingly good. They have really got my taste down, and frequently show me things that I don't need, but I want a lot. I don't want to see new stuff I don't need, to waste my limited spending money on! It's depressing having to always scroll past them. (But I refuse to buy anything because of FB ads as a point of principle.)
I must check back in and see whether you got any snow. I hope so!

Date: 2026-01-13 06:59 pm (UTC)From:I have seen a handful of things on FB that fit that "oh shit, that IS something I would love..." but often their suggestions are very bad, which I find very funny. I can often tell why it's advertising something at me, but it's latched onto the wrong aspect of whatever the thing was. Like... I clicked on an article about a pro wrestler doing mental health advocacy, or something similar. I was interested more on the advocacy side, but FB spent about a month thinking I wanted every pro-wrestling thing it could throw at me.
We did get a bit of snow! Not quite as much as threatened, which was good for driving, but it did all melt off within a day or two (except the deeply shady areas.)
