Fading in and out again like I said I wouldn't. Ah well, I think I have to accept that I live up to my name (which means 'of the sea') and I'm always going to be tidal.

Partially this is because I am now writing and podficcing and trying to fit in signwriting practice, and really this is one creative activity too many in a day. I suspect that if the writing carries on, the podficcing will have to go.

Went down to the boat again on Saturday and accidentally discovered that the bilge pump had been disconnected and there was water in the bilges almost up to the base of the engine. DH managed to get it connected so we could use it on manual, and we pumped the water out, but it still isn't working on auto, so keep your fingers crossed that it doesn't fill up and sink before we can get back to it this Saturday.

On the plus side, Daughter got a cat!

Ember

I didn't think I would like a hairless cat, but I'm smitten. She's called Ember. She's two and had been used for breeding, but was being bullied by the other cats there, so the owner decided she needed to go to a better home.

She's so small and delicate, and very affectionate. She'll climb up to rub her head under your chin and purr all the time. And she does have a slight fuzz, so stroking her is more like petting a cat than like petting warm leather.

Oh my gosh, she's adorable!

I've long wanted a hairless cat... I feel like it might be better for my tragic (though tolerably mild-moderate) cat allergy. Dogs don't bother me - cats, rats, and horses do. Though not badly enough to completely keep me from having them.

I hope that she's still sweet and personable when she does settle in. I've known a few cats that were that way forever, though I've known a lot of aloof ones, too.

I'd definitely want an indoor kitty anyway! But I know they do require some extra care to make sure their skin stays clean and healthy.

Kitties everywhere! I'm sure she's a bit jealous about there being a sudden split in attention, though it's always a little bumpy anyway as things settle in. I'm glad she's still happy to be social with people, because that is probably a good sign!

And lol, bitey kittens! That seems to be relatively common, too. Hopefully s/he settles down soon and learns to nibble a bit less.

Aw, how sweet!

I think it is often a good idea for cats to have a potential friend around - they really can get bored or lonely without anyone around to give them something to do. It sounds like Void does just need some more socialization and a chance to learn his manners.

Lol, I'm sure that won't be their favorite, but it's definitely a good thing!

Sphinx cats are so incredibly warm and velvety. :D

A heated or heat-reflecting cat bed is another option. Some cats are happy to wear coats, others hate them. But pretty much all cats are thermotropic and will gravitate to warm spots.

I'm basically thinking about the kinds of rig used to supply heat to things like reptiles or baby chicks. They need a place they can go that is warm, so they can move into or out of it at need.

These are some locally available options; check stores in your area for similar things.

Also, look for warm areas in the house, like near a heating vent or a spot on the floor where the sun falls. You don't need a thermometer, just follow the cat! She will find them all. Then place a fuzzy cat bed in that spot.

Yeah, if you have at least two, then both cats can have their own if they are territorial. I'm happy I could help!

I petted a naked cat once and she was incredibly affectionate as well and it was much less weird than I feared it might be.
